Less commonly there may be bleeding from the mouth or gastrointestinal tract.
The pair are understood to have contracted the virus after travel to West Africa. Prior to these cases there have been eight cases of Lassa fever imported to the UK since 1980 with the last two cases occurring in 2009. The news means it is the first time the disease has been found in Britain in more than a decade.
